                             Workshop on English for Communicative Skills

One-day Workshop on English for Communicative Skills for the teaching staff of Mepco Schlenk Schools was organised at Mepco Schlenk Matriculation Higher Secondary School by S. Chand publishers from 10 am to 4 pm on 28 October 2017.

The Chief Resource Person, Dr.K.S. Antony Samy , Associate Professor in English, Loyala college Chennai conducted the workshop.

The workshop was inaugurated by the Principal of Mepco Schlenk Matriculation Higher Secondary School , Mrs.J.Easter Jothi. In her inaugural speech, she urged the participants to make use of the workshop to the maximum extent possible in order to enhance their communication skills.

Mr. Antony Samy began the first session with warm up activities that helped trainers to analyze how tension and curiosity differ. He insisted everyone to enter into their class with positive attitude that will make the buds to bloom in an extraordinary way  After that, the participants were given a few worksheets on  ‘How to learn Maths through English’ and their performance was evaluated and necessary feedback on how to improve these skills was given. Teachers were given some strategies and techniques for teaching grammar through activites for better concept development. The workshop helped the teachers providing the potential to build knowledge about the language by giving teachers a framework that play-way method is the most effective way to induce learning since “seeing is believing and doing is retaining”.The participants were given some valuable instructions like ‘An Efficient teacher should teach their students with 3H “Head – knowledge , Heart – understanding their feelings and Hands- learn by doing” He also quoted that “Don’t do extraordinary things Do the small things extraordinarily”.

In the afternoon session, he gave necessary tips and guidelines on basic grammar like Homophones, Adjectives , Tenses. It was followed by the participants expressing their talents within groups on some given topics.  He made them to readout their worksheet and necessary corrections and clarifications were suggested by the resource person.

Overall the workshop was motivational, inspiring, communicative and effective. It was amazing and wonderful experience for all the participants.

During feedback session, Dr. Lavanya, Vice Principal of Mepco Schlenk Matriculation Higher secondary ,explained how the program helped them improve their communication skills and made them more confident of using English in a better way. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Mrs. K.Amelia Luckshiba Karoline, Principal of Mepco Schlenk Nursery and Primary School. In her valedictory address, the Principal congratulated both the participants and the resource persons for organizing the programme successfully and requested the participants to constantly improve upon their skills and competencies for their personal and professional growth.
